Kelton is back one last time in Starfield, and this time, he has finally thought of a solution to New Atlantis’s growing tree problem. We’ve had to deal with dodgy officials extorting us for information, and frustrated colleagues who are only looking out for themselves. Now we have a whole new hurdle to cross.
Turns out the tree Kelton is investigating is trying to reproduce and none of the trees on New Atlantis are responding to its vibrations. It’s believed the tree will vibrate itself to destruction, likely causing damage to New Atlantis itself. Kelton thinks he knows how to resolve the issue, and in this guide, we are going to walk you through his master plan.

How To Start ‘Late Bloomer’
Naturally, if you want to start ‘Late Bloomer’ you need to complete both ‘A Tree Grows In New Atlantis’ and ‘Out On A Limb’. After some time has passed, you will get an update in your Journal informing you that Kelton has a new task for you. Once this has been received, head back to New Atlantis and talk to him.
Kelton believes that if you can find this tree’s mate, he can prevent it from destroying itself. Here’s the thing though, Kelton is fairly certain the tree in question was uprooted and shipped to the Freestar Collective after the war as a sign of peace. Naturally, the tree died because the idea behind moving a tree across the galaxy is bafflingly stupid.
Despite that, there is some hope. Rumour has it a branch from that tree is on display in the Coe Heritage Museum. If you can get your hands on it, Kelton will be able to synthesise its DNA and theoretically be able to respond to the tree on New Atlantis.
Getting Your Hands On The Branch
This quest might seem straightforward, however, there is one major hang-up – Leah Casler. Upon travelling to Akita City in the Freestar Collective and trundling on over to the Coe Heritage Museum, you will be confronted with the museum’s curator. Turns out she really dislikes the UC and she is not willing to hand over the branch.
This leaves you with two options:
- Persuade her to give you the branch
- Steal the branch
We found Leah to be very stuck in her ways, and this made persuasion quite difficult – even with points invested in the relevant Skill. If this is your chosen path, be sure to save before you attempt the minigame. You only get one shot with Leah, but if you do fail, you will get some information on a man called Earl Fulton. You can find him at the nearby zoo and he will sell you his branch for a measly 500 Credits.
If you want to steal the branch (or if you are forced to) then you need to get to the safe behind the desk. Unfortunately, Leah has a pretty good perception and she spotted us once we got in range of the safe. This makes it potentially difficult to pick the Expert lock without being noticed. In the end, we resorted to killing her.
If you can’t pick Expert locks, you won’t be able to access the branch at all. As far as we are aware, there are no keys to this safe. You either have to persuade Leah, pay Earl, or have the Security chops to crack the safe. Murder is optional…maybe.
Return To Kelton
With Branch in hand, return to Kelton on New Atlantis. As per usual, Kelton doesn’t want to know how you got the branch – he only wants the result of your hard work. At this point, you can also lie to Kelton and claim that Leah wants the branch back once Kelton has what he wants (regardless of how you obtained the branch).
Once Kelton has gotten the audio response he needs from the branch, he asks you to go to an SSNN Terminal in the Commercial District and broadcast the vibrations.
Reward
With everything done and dusted, return to Kelton one last time. He will thank you for your help and reward you with the following:
- 5500 Credits
- 100 EXP
