The ‘Red Tape’ quest line in Starfield is one of the most interesting, despite the general premise being rather bland. Corporate espionage, large-scale deception, and most recently, the blackmail of a planetary governor. For a quest that started with “Mine 10 Iron Ore”, things certainly escalated.
The chain concludes with Red Tape Reclamation. The equipment shipment you have worked so hard to get approved has unfortunately gone missing, and it’s up to you to save Trevor’s bacon. In this quest, we will walk you through how to complete the quest in the most efficient way possible.

How To Start ‘Red Tape Reclamation’
This quest should have automatically been added to your Log after you completed ‘Red Tape Runaround’. Regardless, have a natter with Trevor to kickstart the “Reclamation”. Trevor reveals that one of his workers, Hank, insisted on picking up and delivering the newly ordered equipment. The thing is, Hank went missing shortly after.
This is devastating news for not only Trevor but all the miners he contracts. A lot of Credits were spent securing this new equipment and if that money is recouped, then it was all for nothing. Plus, all of your efforts up until this point would be for nothing. Trevors asks you to track down Hank and see what happened. He recommends going to Ship Services and asking if they have seen Hank.
Talking To Ship Services
Ship Services can be found outside of Cydonia. These are the NPCs that will help repair, swap, and outfit your ships when you land on a planet. Talk to him and he will reveal that Hank did leave Mars – implying he successfully left to collect the order. However, in a strange turn of events, he returned to Mars recently.
The thing is, Hank didn’t land at Cydonia’s port. Instead, Hank landed at an unknown Mars location. Upon asking if this is normal, you will discover that this is so unusual that they have never seen it happen before. With information at hand, it’s time to return to Trevor to see what he thinks.
Trevor And The Broken Spear
Return to Trevor in Cydonia. Trevor will be disappointed, but not necessarily surprised. If Hank is on Mars then Trevor concludes that he is most likely at the Broken Spear – one of Hank’s haunts. Hank isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, so Trevor is confident you will find him there.
Head to the Broken Spear (it’s your first right when you first enter Cydonia). You will find Hank at the bar waiting as if nothing has happened. Confront him and he will offer you a drink. We chose not to indulge in frivolities, but you do you. Hank very quickly confesses that he stole the equipment.
When questioned as to why, it is revealed that he did it mostly out of spite. He doesn’t like the company he works for, he doesn’t really like his job, and he wants the whole industry to collapse so he can leave without breaking his contract. Since Hank has blabbed his entire plan to you, you can threaten to turn him over to the cops. This is too much for Hank and he caves completely and offers to take you to the gear.
Following Hank
Hank will very slowly take you to his ship. It’s currently stationed a small distance away from Cydonia, but considering how slow Hank walks and how much exposition he drops, it feels a lot longer. Hank will unveil every aspect of his plan on his way to his ship, and naturally, he is planning on betraying you.
Sadly Hank counts as an essential NPC, so you can’t actually kill him (yet). Trust us, we tried several times. Thankfully, once the ship is in sight, Hank will pull a gun on you. At this point, Hank is well and truly killable. We chose to attack Hank, and he went down very quickly. Turns out Hank is both stupid and pretty worthless in a fight.
Reward
With the location of his ship (and the equipment) in sight, it’s time to return to Trevor. Trevor will thank you for helping him (and his miners) out and reward you with 50 Iron Ore, some armour, and some clothes. Additionally, you will gain:
- 3700 Credits
- 100 EXP
