Starfield: How To Treat Afflictions

August 31, 2023 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Doctor, heal thyself.

The galaxy is a big place full of different painful challenges in Starfield. Travelling to freezing cold planets or planets with high temperatures can burn you if your suit protection wears off — and we’re not even talking about all the lacerations, broken bones, fractures, head wounds and other status effects that can befall your intrepid space explorer. It’s a dangerous space frontier out there, so we’re going to explain exactly how afflictions can be cured. If you don’t cure an affliction, it will stick with you permanently.

How To Treat Afflictions

Afflictions a semi-permanent status effects that can only be cured with special aid items. There are many different afflictions — you can check your current affliction by opening the character menu and pressing [Y] to view your status. A list of Status Effects will appear next to your character.

All afflictions can be treated at any doctor or medical facility. Talk to the doctor and they’ll charge a small fee for curing you. You can also (usually) purchase many healing items and aid items from doctor vendors.

  • NOTE: To apply treatments, open your inventory and select the [Aid] tab. On the right, you’ll see the afflictions your character currently has with a triangle symbol. Each affliction has a different color (Green, Purple, Red, Blue, Yellow, etc) — to easily treat an affliction, search for an aid item that displays a matching triangle symbol.

Aid items can also be purchased commonly at any Trade Authority post. The best resource for Aid items is the hospital and doctor vendors — you can also research and craft aid items. Aid items are generally the easiest aid items to research and craft.

  • Orange Affliction: Burn / Frostbite – Treated with Healing Gel or Heal Paste. Heal Paste is far cheaper but gives no extra buffs.
  • Purple Affliction: Infection – Treated with Antibiotics or Penicilin X.
  • Yellow Affliction: Brain Injury / Concussion / Heatstroke / Hernia / Hypothermia / Lung Damage / Poisoning / Radiation Poisoning: Treated with Injector.
  • Blue Affliction: Dislocated Limb, Fractured Limb, Fractured Skull, Sprain and Torn Muscle – Treated with Immobilizer.
  • Red Affliction: Contusions, Lacerations and Puncture Wounds – Treated with Bandages.

And finally, there is a different type of affliction called Addiction.

  • Addiction: Requires doctor visit for permanent fix. Or, suppress symptoms for 10m with Addichrone.

Addiction is caused by using illicit drugs like Aurora which can commonly found in the city of Neon. There are other addictive chemicals, so remember to visit special doctors to clear these addictions from your system.
