Beef up your arsenal with a new weapon. Here’s how to get the Rifle in Sons of the Forest. This two-handed Rifle comes with a sight for accurate shooting at medium-range. Scoring headshots is easy with the Rifle, but you’ll need to enter an extremely dangerous cave to get it. Don’t even think about running in and out to collect it — at least three walls of mutants protect the Rifle. This is a late-game location, but if you’re prepared for a fight against finger-ful monsters and gross babies, you can claim the Rifle as a permanent addition to your weaponry. Where To Find The Rifle
The Rifle is a powerful and accurate weapon that can take down cannibals in a single bullet. The Rifle comes equipped with a Red Dot Sight and can carry up to 4 rounds in the chamber. It is a Bolt-Action so it cannot be fired quickly — your character has to cycle the action before firing again. Accuracy is key, but this weapon can rapidly down powerful mutants at range.
To get the Rifle, you need to reach the Golden Armor cave. This massive cave system has multiple entrances — we’ll want to use the cave entrance by the large lake on the opposite side of the island from the starting position. This is a challenging area, so you’ll need weapons and the Rebreather before entering.
- Golden Armor Cave Location: Go to the location shown on the map above to reach the Golden Armor cave. This is the same cave where you’ll find the Golden Armor, a set of clothes that is required to unlock the final underground area of the game.
Once you’ve reached the cave, save your game. When you’re prepared, break the wooden boards and squeeze through the cave entrance.
- How To Get The Rifle: Progress into the cave until you reach wandering blind mutants. There’s a pack of them in the first large chamber. Continue past them and into the cave where the path forks left and right. Go right and you’ll reach a flooded cave.
- Swim through the water with the rebreather and you’ll emerge into another cave with a Handsy mutant. Continue and stick to the right wall — eventually, you’ll reach another large, expansive chamber. Look right for glowing skulls on the rock walls. Go toward the skulls to find a small corner guarded by baby mutants. Clear them out.
- In the alcove with the baby mutants, you’ll find two dead soldiers. One of the soldiers is carrying the Rifle. Grab it and you can leave.
This same cave system leads to the Golden Armor and more story revelations if you follow it deeper. You can easily turn back with the Rifle from here. The Rifle is a bolt-action rifle with a scope attached. It can kill a regular mutant in a single shot — it is the most powerful weapon in the game currently and is very useful against late-game bosses.
