Erich’s Top 10 BEST Games Of The Year [VIDEO]

January 9, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

We’re not done with the best games of 2018. See all the underrated gems and blockbuster masterpieces Erich picked for his personal favorites games of the year.

Our video producer over on Guideranx, Erich, has a lot of opinions about video games. So we asked him to share his top picks for 2018 — and there are some big unknowns in this eclectic collection of underrated gems. There are an incredible amount of games being released daily, and it’s easy for even amazing games to get lost in the shuffle. We’re looking to rectify that, because this list of amazing games doesn’t just include incredible triple-A titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man or God of War, it also includes weird debut indie titles like Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. Has anyone even heard of that game?

Of course, if you know anything about Erich, he’s got a couple of Metroidvania games on his list. There’s Yoku’s Island Express (Pinball Type), Iconoclasts (Classic Type), and La-Mulana 2 (Extreme Type). These games aren’t for everyone, but they’re Erich’s favorite genre. He’s crazy about these things, and La-Mulana 2 is the craziest Metroidvania of all. Listen as he (Erich) gives his completely unscripted, totally rambling opinions about ten games. Don’t worry, I’m there too to keep the conversations on track. Sort of.

Nobody is going to agree with this list. It’s a completely subjective, personal selection of the 10 games that connected with Erich the most. Awesome games like Monster Hunter World are included, but so are indie gems like DUSK. They’re all worth checking out (if you have the time) — so check out the video above for explanations on each entry.

It’s been a great year at Gameranx, and there’s a lot more to come in January. Look forward to seeing lots of video coverage for Resident Evil 2 Remake, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, and much more. It’s about to become a very busy time for new, majo
