Phoenix Point

  • Developer: Snapshot Games
  • Publisher: Snapshot Games
  • Platforms: PC, XBO (console exclusive)
  • Release: September 2019

If you enjoyed the X-COM series then you may want to divert your attention to Phoenix Point. This is an upcoming strategy video game with turn-based tactics. Set in the year 2047, Earth has become a target of alien invasions and you must defend humanity. There’s plenty of strategy to the game as there appears to be a game mechanic where the aliens can actually mutate from whatever technology players use against them throughout various turns so you’ll want to think ahead and play accordingly. There are limited resources with the world and how players complete various challenges will determine what ending they get in the game. Furthermore, if you’re a fan of lore and narrative then you’ll find plenty of that here as Phoenix Point will contain various factions with different views and ideology about the events that are going on within the world.

Gears of War 5

  • Developer: The Coalition
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios
  • Platforms: XBO, PC

The next main installment to the Gears of War franchise was unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. We were given a glimpse as to what to expect with the narrative, even though the full fleshed out details have not been released quite yet.

From the press conference, we know that the game will center around Kait Diaz, a female member of the COG Army. Early on within the narrative, it seems that Kait is having terrible dreams leading to visions and it’s left her to disobey orders to seek out the meaning of these visions. Through her journey, players will learn of the true origins of the Locust.

  • Developer: Rare

The Battletoads franchise has been an iconic series for years though it had not seen a video game release in quite some time. However, that will soon change as a new entry to the franchise was announced during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any real details or gameplay footage of the game so far. But we can still expect a beat ‘em up arcade style video game with up to three players cooperative gameplay.

Crackdown 3

  • Developer: Reagant Games, Sumo Digital
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios
  • Platforms: PC, XBO
  • Release: February 22, 2019

Announced all the way back in 2014, the third installment to the Crackdown franchise is slated to release in early 2019. The video game will once again see players take on the role of an agent from The Agency who is battling a new terrorist organization.

Ten years have passed since the events of Crackdown 2 where now a new terrorist organization had successfully killed the power across the entire world. One of the bigger elements added to Crackdown 3 was the level of destruction developers are giving players. You may find that there are entire structures available to completely demolished, making Crackdown 3 a very action-packed video game title.

Cuphead “The Delicious Last Course”

  • Developer: Studio MDHR
  • Publisher: Studio MDHR

If you enjoyed Cuphead when it first launched then you may want to check into the upcoming expansion known as The Delicious Last Course. The DLC is bringing players a brand new island to complete platform levels and boss fights.

Likewise, the upcoming The Delicious Last Course expansion will give players a new playable character to go through the game. While Cuphead and Mugman will still be present, players can opt to play as the newly added Ms. Chalice character.

Halo: Infinite

  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • Publisher: Microsoft
  • Platforms: PC, XBO
  • Release: TBD

We really can’t go into too much detail about Halo: Infinite as there hasn’t been really any information released so far about the game. This will be the next major installment to the Halo franchise which will continue the story for Master Chief. A small teaser was released during E3 2018 and since then the development team over at 343 Industries have yet to give any information regarding just what gamers can expect. Instead, players should prepare for more Master Chief and perhaps another encounter against Cortana but that’s purely speculative. At any rate, we’re hoping that more information about the upcoming Halo title will be revealed during E3 this year so stay tuned for future updates.
