Silent Hill F Was Almost Set Around Mount Fuji

July 31, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Developers struggled with the landmark for their game.

Silent Hill fans are eating well lately. With Bloober Team knocking Silent Hill 2’s remake out of the park, we’re eager to sit in on Silent Hill F. NeoBards Entertainment is up to bat next, and in a couple of short months, we’ll be able to decide if they strike out or not. However, one attribute that might have surprised fans when this game was unveiled was that we are not stepping into the iconic town of Silent Hill.

Nope, that town is left in America, where maybe we’ll revisit it in a new entry one day. If not a new entry, then we know a Silent Hill remake is coming. But for now, the focus is on a Japanese town set in the 1960s. The question some fans might have had was, how did the developers decide which town to take inspiration from? Well, we now have that answer.

As mentioned, we knew this was going to be set in Japan a long time ago. It seems like Konami was wanting to dial things back to a more traditional Japanese horror aspect. Recently, there was a panel with a few key members behind the project. During the Anime Expo 2025, the writer behind the game, Ryukishi07, spoke to Famitsu about the setting location.

Silent Hill F Writer Speaks Up On The Game’s Setting

During the conversation, the writer noted that he wanted the staff to have a common understanding of the game’s environment. To achieve this, they used real locations in Japan. One of the first locations that was selected was Shizuoka Prefecture. That was close to nailing the feel, but there was one problem.

The writer felt Mount Fuji was quickly overshadowing the world they were trying to capture. That’s when they eventually came across Hida-Kanayama, a town that had a grid-like structure. It matched what the developers were going for and instantly became the inspiration behind the fictional town used for Silent Hill F. Now we’re eager to explore this virtual town, and being a grid-like setup, it’s bound to have a few sudden scares as you explore.

Of course, the writer behind the game project realized there was one other area that needed to be addressed. It was recently unveiled that he decided to scale back character development compared to how he handled his other literary works. So if you’re familiar with their work, these game characters might feel a little more condensed.

Hopefully, Silent Hill F delivers. Currently, the game is slated to release on September 25, 2025. When it does release, you’ll find it available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Meanwhile, if you want a potential peek at the Silent Hill roadmap for future games, you might want to check this out.
