According to a new post from Exputer, Square Enix and Tencent are planning a mobile version of the massively popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV. The port is said to be the result of a strategic alliance between Square Enix and Tencent announced in 2018, which has not yet yielded any project between the two companies.
Many players have responded positively to the news. “I’ve enjoyed FF15 Pocket Edition and Square Enix delivered a lot of quality mobile games in the past,” one user said.
“Thats great news. I hope there is cross save so I can access my character from anywhere,” said another.
Earlier this year, reports claimed that Tencent had canceled an unannounced Nier mobile game. According to Reuters, the project was canceled due to high development costs, royalty fees, and platform fees.
Last week, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida apologized for issues during the release of the game’s newest expansion, Dawntrail. Xbox players saw the bulk of the issues, with PC players reporting an incredibly smooth experience and short queue times.
The Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV was released for all players on July 2. The long-awaited release brought with it a level cap boost from 90 to 100, a new playable race, two new DPS classes, new cities, new dungeons and raids, a new limited job, and an entirely new story arc.
The 7.0 update also improved the game’s visuals, including textures, hair, grass, shadows, and reflections. This marks the title’s first graphical upgrade since it was first released in 2013.
