New Redfall “Into The Night” Trailer is Wonderfully Gory

October 25, 2022 by Carley Garcia

The bloodsuckers are ready to take to the streets–and we’re ready to put ’em down.

Arkane Studios and Bethesda have revealed a spooky new trailer for the upcoming shooter Redfall, this time focusing slightly less on gameplay and more on the horror elements players can expect early next year. Ever since the game was first revealed in 2021, anxious fans of Left 4 Dead have seen potential in this new co-op vampire hunting experience, and they may be right to do so. Despite already having faced two delays, Redfall is still one of the most hyped titles expected in 2023.

Check out the new trailer below. Be warned: the vampires within are more terrifying than we expected.

The blood-soaked city itself is teeming with life, but it’s the undead that will prove to be the biggest issue for players. It will be possible to play solo if you dare, though playing with up to three friends will enable players to try out different strategies to see what’s most effective against the horde. Through exploration, it will be possible to improve your arsenal and customize your character with unique abilities and upgrades. Whether you prefer to go in with guns blazing or sneak around in the shadows, Redfall will have a setup for everyone.

“We’ve come up with a suite of really cool abilities and powers for players to choose from, just like we did in Prey and Dishonored” creative director Ricardo Bare said in an interview.

The game’s open world was designed by the level designers behind Prey‘s Talos I space station and Dishonored‘s Dunwall. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the team at Arkane gave some insights into what Redfall, Massachusetts will feel like.

“It’s an open world, but it’s not an open world based on the scale of vehicles. It’s an open world based on foot. And so it’s like a familiar setting, New England, it’s spooky. Traverse the place, go into mom-and-pop grocery stores, apartments, get on the roof of buildings. And we try to put as many environmental storytelling scenes around as we possibly can, and so it feels very lived in.”

Redfall will be an open-world, first-person shooter featuring both single-player and co-op modes. Players will be able to choose from four playable characters each with a different background and unique abilities, including a cryptozoologist, a telekinetic, a combat engineer, and a supernatural sharpshooter. The title is set in Redfall, Massachusetts where, after a failed science experiment, a legion of vampires invades and isolates the town from the outside world.

Redfall is scheduled to be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S during the first half of 2023. The title was first announced in June 2021 during the Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 showcase. In October 2021, Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, said that the game was in a playable state.
