Cyno is the latest hotness for Genshin Impact. The General Mahamatra of the Akademiya of Sumeru is the first five star character coming to Genshin Impact 3.1, and his debut has come strong.
First, a small explainer. Genshin Impact‘s monetization system comes in the form of wish banners. Players ‘wish’ on specific banners to get new characters and weapons. Alongside Weapon Event Wishes and Standard Wishes, Character Event Wishes are the most anticipated updates for Genshin Impact. The Character Event Wish is connected to a limited time Character Event, which is the only time you have to pull a specific character. While HoYoverse will sometimes bring back a previously revealed character in a return event, most of the time, the initial Character Events are the only time you can pull these characters.
Did I mention gacha? Yes, the Character Events and Weapon Events are subject to HoYoverse’s own gacha system. Genshin Impact‘s gacha does incorporate a pity mechanic with it, meaning the game raises the rates that you can get a character or weapon after you spend a specified amount of money. Still, it’s quite common that players will fail to pull their favorite characters before these events end. You can spend money for the very purpose of trying to earn these characters, even triggering the pity mechanic, and just fail to do so. And of course, five star characters like Cyno and Venti are in high demand because of their high level abilities that make it easier to play the game. Ironically, they also make the best characters to earn resources to earn other characters too.
On the day of Cyno’s debut, Cyno and returning character Venti made $ 4,235,995 in event banners. This compares favorably to Venti’s solo rerun, which made $ 5,29,515 on its first day. Of course, this is an auspicious debut for Genshin Impact 3.1, and indicates that Genshin Impact overall still has a lot of legs with their captive, loyal userbase. Players who have not yet pulled Cyno have until October 14 to do so.
Perhaps characteristic of the series as well, Cyno is already a popular character in the fan community, with tons of fanart and cosplays and cosplay WIPs already lighting up the internet. Given the game is well known for the large number of popular female characters, this is certainly an interesting development. Maybe it’s a positive sign that women players also have sway in what kinds of characters get designed and introduced in the game.
Genshin Impact 3.1 is playable on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. You can read more of our coverage of Genshin Impact 3.1 below.
