When we last saw our heroes (back in August, to be exact), the retro-tastic Shovel Knight had managed to clear 180,000 sales across Wii U, 3DS, and Steam. Though the Steam version was available worldwide, the Nintendo versions were limited to North America. Since then, the game has hit OS X, Linux, and European and Australian Nintendo eShops, bringing sales up to a respectable 300,000 after five months and a few days.
For a small outfit like Yacht Club Games, this is a phenomenal accomplishment — all those months during which the team couldn't get paid because they ran out of money have finally paid off! And with strong word of mouth, there's no reason not to believe sales won't continue at a steady pace from here on out.
Yacht Club is hard at work on the DLC promised during the Kickstarter as well as a Japanese release, both which ought to be met by a modest boost in sales. The company has also expressed interest in bringing Shovel Knight to as many platforms as possible once the original goals have been met, which ought to help even further. Oh, and let's not forget the Shovel Knight merch — that's some extra pocket change right there!
