Ever since the cancellation of Silent Hills, the project which was being fronted by Hideo Kojima before his split with Konami, we have seen nothing but rumors and teases regarding the franchise. Konami has its IP secured and while there are fans pleading and hoping that this game series would spawn another classic title or otherwise get sold to the likes of Capcom, what we’re getting instead online is nonstop rumors. We’ve heard it all from episodic releases, a reboot, to even Silent Hills getting picked back up from Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions. Nothing has been confirmed yet and while the internet is actively watching the usual accounts which could potentially tease something a bit more credible, we’re still waiting for that official announcement of Silent Hill making its glorious comeback.
While the franchise is still being used in fact we know that a new film is being made from the director behind the original Silent Hill movie adaptation and even most recently, Dead by Daylight is doing a crossover event with Silent Hill, we don’t have anything standalone. Again, as mentioned there have been rumors and teases one of which came from an artist by the name of Suehiro Maruo who shared photos of a Silent Hills logo and an image from the Konami office location.
Nothing has come from that tease until recently when the artist once again shared a post on Instagram. After the announcement came from Dead by Daylight that Silent Hill would be featured in the game, the artist chimed in saying that this is just the start. Again, the start of what remains to be answered though it would appear after all these rumors, teases, and supposed leaks, we’re still left without anything official.
One of the biggest rumors right now has been that certain members from Team Silent, the original crew from Konami that worked on the Silent Hill IP, have been working on a new installment that would be releasing exclusively on the PlayStation 5. With the PlayStation 5 being rather secretive itself, there are rumors we are going to receive a stream event for the console and its line of video games.
Now when Sony opts to hold a stream event, perhaps all these rumors and teases could prove to be legitimate. From there we could start looking for the developers responsible and find out just what they plan to do with the franchise as again the latest rumors would indicate this is some type of a reboot. For now, all we can do is wait and see if anything is actually announced regarding Silent Hill.
