Mass Effect: Andromeda is a big game. Instead of discrete interior locations, you’ll explore vast open worlds, often on an all-terrain vehicle. That level of freedom expands beyond the environment, as the playable character Ryder is more customizable than ever. That’s can be kind of a double-edged sword — too much choice, and it makes it even harder to 100% the many achievements and trophies available on console for Mass Effect: Andromeda.
That is, if you’re interested in 100%. We’re going to attempt to explain every optional challenge in Bioware‘s fourth Mass Effect entry, detailing what you’ll need to do and tips to earn each of these unlockables.
Like any good action RPG, your personal experience isn’t going to be exactly the same as everyone else’s, which means you might be missing the skills required to earn certain trophies / achievements. Thankfully, this game doesn’t (necessarily) require multiple playthroughs, you can always respec at the Tempest medbay.

Long-Distance Jump
Travel at least 30m in a single jump. (Single-Player)
You can kind of cheat at this one — you don’t need to land safely to successfully earn this achievement / trophy. Use one of the high cliffs on Eos around the initial landing zone, then sprint toward a ledge. Jump just as you hit the ledge, then dash mid-jump to get the distance you need.
Even if you crash-land and restart from a checkpoint, you’ll still earn this challenge.
Pyrotechnics Expert
Light three enemies on fire with one continuous Flamethrower attack. (Single-Player)
- Skill Required: Flamethrower (Tech Tree)
This can be unlocked early in the game. On Chapter 1: Planetfall, you’ll encounter several dropships that deposit enemies in close proximity to each other. All you have to do to unlock this achievement / trophy is fire off your flamethrower and hit three enemies. The flamethrower can last a short while, so make sure to hit three opponents before your fuel runs dry.
It’s best to attempt this on Normal, against enemies about your level or higher. When you see a dropship, boost toward it and wait for the soldiers to drop. That’s the easiest way, just make sure you’re fighting enemies tough enough to survive the flamethrower attack. All three enemies need to be burning at the same time.
Rough Landing
Detonate a trip mine with a thrown enemy. (Single-Player)
- Skills Required: Trip Mine (Combat Tree)
- Pull (Biotics Tree)
- Throw (Biotics Tree)
This can be a pretty tricky achievement / trophy to earn. While the “Pull” skill isn’t strictly required, it will help in almost any encounter. You won’t earn anything if an enemy steps on the mine, it will only work if an enemy is thrown into a mine you’ve already placed. Pull helps a lot when realigning your target — with pull, you can “grab” your enemy and properly set them up for an easy thrown into a mine.
To set everything up, place a mine somewhere outside the general combat area. Someplace where enemies won’t accidentally step on it. Kill everyone but the last opponent, then pull them. Align your target with the mine, then throw.
Icebreaker
Shatter a frozen enemy with a jump melee attack. (Single-Player)
- Skill Required: Cryo Beam (Tech Tree)
Another tech tree challenge. To shatter an enemy, freeze them with the Cryo Beam — stop shooting after the enemy falls to the ground, completely frozen in ice. They won’t be able to move. Next, perform a jump melee attack [ Jump: Cross/A -> Melee: Triangle / Y] to shatter the opponent to pieces.
This can be done anywhere in the game. If you’re having trouble, save the Cryo Beam for the final enemy in an encounter.
Vanguard Surprise
While cloaked, hit an enemy with a Charge attack. (Single-Player)
- Skill Required: Tactical Cloak (Tech Tree)
- Charge (Biotics Tree)
You’ll need either 18 skill points, or 9 depending on your starting class. Whatever you choose, you’ll need to unlock both of these skills to earn this (pretty simple) achievement / trophy. All you have to do is activate the Tactical Cloak, which turns Ryder invisible, making it very easy to sneak up behind an opponent and unleash the Charge attack skill.
The Tactical Cloak is unlocked automatically if you select the Operative Class during character creation. Similarly, the Biotics Charge ability is unlocked if you select the Scrapper Class from the start.
