Main Quest 8: The War Chief’s Trail
You get this quest after speaking with Varl. First, you need to head north to the Massacre site. Be sure to watch out for other machines on your way there, as they will attack you and your new mount. Once you arrive, survey the site of the massacre by examining the dead machines. After looking at the machines, a survivor will appear, talk to him.
After speaking with the survivor, you’ll need to head back east to Sona’s last known location. When you arrive, examine the location for any clues as to the whereabouts of Sona. After finding enough clues, use your scanner to find tracks leading away from the campsite. Follow these tracks and watch out for corrupted machines, as they can pose a larger threat than usual.
Eventually, you’ll run across a dead sawtooth, examine this creature and a cutscene will play. After the cutscene, you’ll need to follow Sona quickly. Once you arrive, a cutscene will play and then you’ll need to kill the cultists and destroy the corrupted machines. Take your time before attacking and plan your assault. I would recommend heading to the back of the camp and sniping off what enemies you can. Use your fire arrows to destroy the blaze canisters for bonus damage and to fulfill an optional objective.
After defeating all the enemies and looting, talk to Sona. After speaking with Sona, survey the dig site for any clues as to where the rest of the cultists might have run off to. Using your scanner will reveal a trail, follow that. It will bring you to a datapoint, listen to it. After listening to the message, run back to Varl and Sona and speak with them to complete the quest.
