Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a whole lot of freedom. It’s a roleplaying game through and through and through, so being able to craft the perfect character is par for the course. The thing is, what defines a perfect character for you can change over time. Maybe being an angry Berserker Gnome isn’t your true calling after 20 hours of play.
The question is then, can you change your appearance? We already have a guide that covers how to change your Class in Baldur’s Gate 3, which you can find here. Changing your appearance is a bit harder to do, however. This guide will walk you through your options.

Can You Change Your Appearance In Baldur’s Gate 3?
Sadly, no…sort of. It’s not currently possible to change your appearance to the same degree as the starting character creation screen. Once you start your game, you are locked into your choices until the end of time…or until you start a new character. This means you can’t change anything about your visual appearance – even if you respec your character with Withers. This of course includes changing your Race.
Now we did say “sort of”, because there is a way to change your appearance and even your Race, but it’s not to the same level as a real character creator. If you have bought the Digital Deluxe version of the game, you will find the ‘Mask Of The Shapeshifter’ in your Stash at camp.
Mask Of The Shapeshifter
Players who equip the Mask Of The Shapeshifter will gain access to a spell, Shapeshift. This spell allows you to change your race or gender to anything you want. However, you have little-to-no control over your actual features. You are locked to whatever the game deemed to be the default for your selection.
This effect is also purely visual, so if you wanted to be a Half-Orc to help your Berserking, well, you are out of luck there, friend. Finally, the spell is temporary. Every time you have a Long Rest, the spell will break. Of course, you can recast it, but that will get tedious very quickly.
That’s all we have for Baldur’s Gate 3 for now. Be sure to check out our other guides and lists for more Baldur’s Gate content.
