Dead Space Remake: How to Get Security Clearance Level 3

February 2, 2023 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Finally.

While the Dead Space remake is largely faithful to the original 2008 survival horror classic, there are a handful of changes that it makes to the original game’s format. One of the biggest mechanical changes is the fact that players are able to freely explore the USG Ishimura and return to the areas they’ve already completed at will. The original game took a more linear, level-based approach to things but the remake allows for a lot of player-driven exploration.

One thing that encourages players to retrace their steps throughout the ship is the security clearance level mechanic. Essentially, as Isaac continues his stay on the Ishimura, he gets more clearance to explore previously locked areas making it well-worth a player’s time to backtrack to previously locked rooms. Here’s what you need to know about getting security clearance level 3.

Security Clearance Level 3 Location

As with the previous two security clearance levels, you’ll end up picking up clearance level 3 as a mandatory part of Dead Space‘s story. Specifically, you’ll get it in Chapter 7: Into the Void when you go to the USG Ishimura’s mining deck. After navigating the traps left by the miners and discovering that you don’t have the authority to launch the tubes in the Mining Control Room, you’ll be tasked with finding the deck administrator’s RIG to get clearance.

Head to Deck B in the Mining Deck and you’ll find a large zero-gravity room with a giant exposed flaming energy tube in the center of it. You’ll need to turn the gravity back on in the room, but to do that, you have to first destroy the four large pieces of glowing debris by throwing them into the energy cylinder. Take note that as you do, you’ll be ambushed by some necromorphs.

With all four pieces of debris destroyed and the monsters dealt with, interact with the panel in the far right corner of the room to bring the gravity back online, unlock all the doors, and raise the bridges that connect everything together. Be warned, as soon as you do, you’ll be attacked by a lot of necromorphs. Fight them off and make your way across the bridges into the Mineral Processing Center across from where you came in. Inside, you’ll find the body of the deck administrator and his RIG next to him.

Pick up the RIG and you’ll be given security clearance level 3, allowing you to enter all locked rooms on the Ishimura save for those that require the Master Override.
