SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake – How To Find All Gold Doubloons | Prehistoric Kelp Forest Guide

January 30, 2023 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Blast the past and grab all four doubloons.

Welcome to the past. One of the shortest levels in Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake sends us to the prehistoric past. This isn’t just the shortest level — it also only has four Gold Doubloons total. There aren’t many, but the doubloons here are pretty tricky to find. A doubloon is hidden on one of several tongue-slides you’ll use to travel through the lava-filled level, while another is expertly hidden beneath a seemingly killer drop. If you want to speedrun this stage and skip straight to the doubloons, learn where to find them in the full locations guide below.

Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake is a sequel to Battle For Bikini Bottom, finally returning eager fans to a fully playable Bikini Bottom from the wildly popular cartoon series. All the main cast members are back for this cute adventure, with Spongebob setting off a cosmic commotion and remixing his world. Every level has a new theme, giving this game so much more variety compared to the previous entry in the series. You’ll have to jump through the prehistoric past, ghost-infested Rock Bottom, pirate lagoons and Wild West saloons. With a whole bunch of new powers to explore, you’ll need to play levels then replay to 100% them. That’s no different here. Some Gold Doubloons will only appear on replays — don’t worry, we’ll explain what you need to know about each collectible in the level.

Gold Doubloons are optional collectibles that unlock costume tiers from the shop. By collecting hidden Gold Doubloons, you’ll make more costumes available for purchase in the shop menu. Gold Doubloons are hidden through side-quests, in the environment, or by completing challenges. Some challenges can’t be completed until after returning to a level. If a lock icon appears over an element on the stage, you’ll need to return later after unlocking more abilities for Spongebob.

Gold Doubloon #1: Volcano Slide – Near the end of the volcano slide, there’s a long jump with a bounce pad in the lava to the right. Double-jump and land on the bounce pad to launch up to an alternate slide path. This path leads to a doubloon. If you miss the jump, try to fall into lava immediately to reload the previous checkpoint and try again.

Gold Doubloon #2: Sleeping Dorudon – Return to this area after completing Level 7. Near the exit of this section, there’s a fishhook to the left leaving to a purple switch. Use the boost rings and stop at two tall islands to fill your Reefblower while circling the sleeping Dorudon.

Gold Doubloon #3: Cave Painting Cave – Hidden behind the throne in the Cave Painting puzzle room. Check to the right of the puzzle.

Gold Doubloon #4: Lava River – Before reaching the Sleeping Dorudon, look down for a large wooden log in the lava beneath the final jump of this section. Drop down to the log and reach the stone platform to the left of the log. You’ll get a view inside with a purple switch — hit the switch and complete the course to earn this doubloon.
