Spider Crabs — Just Spider Crabs [Animal Crossing: New Horizons]
I can describe Animal Crossing with a lot of words — wholesome, comforting, adorable. Usually I don’t think about the word terrifying, but that’s where we’re at when Spider Crabs invaded the calm shores of New Horizons.
Added with the diving update in New Horizons, Spider Crabs are giant critters you can only catch by diving in the water. They’re so big they don’t fit in the normal plastic cases and aquariums your other animals live in. No, the Spider Crab just hangs out when placed on the ground, free of any cage, creepily moving just enough to let us know it’s alive. I love these guys, but there’s no pretending they aren’t absolutely terrifying.
Playing As Hestu, The Great Fairie, Monks & More [Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity]
The bonus characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity aren’t exactly secret but they are completely shocking to my Zelda-obsessed brain. You don’t just get the usual suspects in this Musou sequel to Breath of the Wild. Some very unusual characters get a place in the spotlight.
As you progress, by completing certain missions you can unlock characters like Hestu the giant dancing Korok (who’s also the most powerful character in the game), or the totally obscure Monk Maz Koshia who is a secret boss you can only fight by completing the DLC. Then there’s the Great Fairies which are actually three different characters in one. As you combo, they will swap between the three of them, unleashing powers that are unique to each Great Fairy. Very, very weird.
