10 Weirdest Video Game Things We Unlocked In 2020

December 23, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

We’re all getting a little weird. Here’s some of the strangest stuff we found in the games of 2020.

Perfecting The Lute With Practice [Mortal Shell]

Sometimes stuff isn’t really tangible. And the weirdest thing you can earn in Mortal Shell isn’t an item or an outfit — its a skill. Mortal Shell is an indie Dark Souls style action-RPG with unique features you won’t find anywhere else. One of the most amusing features is the ability to gain “item mastery” by using the same items over and over.

One item you can use for fun is the lute. By practicing the lute ten times, meaning you’ll actually sit down and strum, you can slowly become a master lute player. Your first few attempts sound terrible, then you start to get pretty good, before finally becoming a true lute master. It’s one of the most unnecessary but fun skills you can learn in any game this year.

70+ Berries From One Tree [Pokemon Sword & Shield: Crown Tundra DLC]

One of the new features in Pokemon Sword & Shield on Switch is the Wild Area. This massive location is packed with Pokemon, and it’s always changing with the seasons — time of day, weather, and other factors determine what Pokemon will appear. And it’s also a primo spot for collecting lots of berries from trees.

You normally only get a handful of berries, but the new Crown Tundra DLC allows your trainer to collect too many. While berries aren’t exactly the most useful items in the game, just being able to get 70+ from a single tree is pretty weird. To do it, you’ll have to travel down to the biggest tree on the Crown Tundra — and I’m talking big. This tree is the size of a skyscraper. Go around back, and you can interact with it like any other dinky tree, shaking it (somehow!) and causing dozens of berries to fall.

It isn’t much, but it’s one of the weirdest, goofiest tiny secrets we found all year.
