The new roles in Red Dead Online can be extremely lucrative — both in cash and XP rewards. Some roles can get you a whole lot more cash than others, so I’m going to break down the best ways to earn the most money from all three. The short version is simple — the Collector role can get you an insane amount of XP and cash, but only after you’ve leveled up a little bit.
For all three jobs, you’ll need to be a little patient to earn the biggest payouts. Even the Collector role can get you some extreme riches slowly if you’re looking for the rarest collectibles. There are even returning tricks you can use from GTAO. The developers at Rockstar just can’t stop us from finding an exploit or two.

Bounty Hunter – Capture People Alive & Wait Out The Timer
To make more money while Bounty Hunting, you’ll need to wait the timer out. After taking your (captured alive!) bounty, stand outside the Sheriff’s Office until you’ve got about 30 seconds left on the timer. That’s how you can earn the most money possible from each bounty.
For whatever reason, waiting out the timer gets you the most cash. This doesn’t work for Legendary Bounties, or bounties with no timer. Those give a set reward that doesn’t seem to increase based on time — it just matters if you bring the bounty back alive or not.
Collector – Go Exploring With the Metal Detector For Endless Cash / XP
Work toward unlocking the Metal Detector upgrade (available at Level 5) for this role. To get the most money, upgrade your Diamond Bag and start filling up your duplicate storage for collections — when you fill your bag completely, the game will be forced to spawn more rare collectibles.
- Buy maps from the Collector Vendor, and have your Metal Detector out while you search. You’ll find tons of jewels this way, and shower yourself with easy XP.
It takes a long time, but if you’re just playing passively, you can increase your chances of finding rare collectible in the environment exponentially by filling up your common duplicates. Basically, this is the RDO version of GTO’s Import / Export trick. It takes a lot of time, but in the long run you’ll be swimming in cash.
Trader – Make Money With Smart Hunting
Always collect the full carcass while hunting, and refresh your camp often. Set up a hunting camp in Big Valley or Tall Trees to get plenty of easy animals — also, if you’re timed, don’t worry about it. Unlike the Bounty Hunter, running out the timer will not get you more money / XP.
Instead of wasting money to resupply, just complete the resupply missions. You’ll steal from bad guys, and you can loot the bodies for collectibles or scan the area with a Metal Detector if you’re also leveling up the Collector role — which you should.
For more money, just follow the straightforward path — level up, get bigger wagons, sell more stuff. There’s no simple tricks here, just lots of money. This role goes very well with the Collector.
