Development studio Monolith Productions had worked hard when it comes to delivering an entertaining experience with Middle-earth: Shadow of War. The video game is a sequel to the 2014 release, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, where once again, players will be brought into the J.R.R. Tolkien crafted world.

Lined up to take place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, players will step back into the role of the ranger Talion and the spirit of the elf lord, Celebrimbor. Noted to be three times bigger than the open-world environment players were able to explore in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, developers behind the production is cramming in new content to enjoy as they go off on their next big journey.

Likewise, the sequel also builds up the Nemesis System when fighting against foes multiple times within the game world. In this particular Middle-earth: Shadow of War guide, we’ll go over some of the basic beginner tips and tricks that may be useful during your start in the video game.

Tip #1 Carefully Choose Ability Unlocks

You’ll find yourself gathering points to unlock various abilities in the game. It’s best to clearly mark out how you wish to craft your character. This will also prevent wasting your upgrades early on, for instance, if you want to automatically grab objects when moving over them then you’ll want to unlock the final ability for the Wraith.

Look at the skill tree and decide from there what routes you want to take in order to avoid grinding for unlocking points later on in the game.

Tip #2 Learn Movements

If you played through Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor then you’ll know that there are a number of enemies that immune to certain moves. This will result in the quick execution of a variety of moves such as parry or dodges.

You can expect the same gameplay mechanics with Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Take some time at the start of your game to learn all the movements so you don’t find yourself fighting against the ropes from a strong Orc or a horde of enemies flocking you.

Tip #3 Might Meter

Make sure to keep tabs on your Might Meter as it can be tough to spot at first. This is a small meter on the corner which will fill up after landing various blows against your enemies. Once the meter is filled up, players can execute a special attack against foes.

This is slightly different compared to the originally Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, but as long as you keep tabs on when the meter is filled, you’ll easily turn the battle towards your favor during crucial moments.

Tip #4 Gear

There is a wide assortment of gear you’ll come across. Keep an eye on what you have as you may find a weapon with overall better stats compared to what is currently equipped. Likewise, the game will allow upgrades for improving your gear.

This could mean keeping equipment your fond over with lesser stats to make upgrades and improve the gear during your journey later on. All-in-all, you may find yourself grinding away when it comes to finding the next big loot cache for equipment replacements.

Tip #5 Mirian

Mirian is the in-game currency and it’s best that you save it up at the start. You’ll find that there are a number of areas within the game that will use the currency outside of just the marketplace. If you’re in need of help on where to find and farm Mirian then check out our Mirian farming guide right here.

Tip #6 Quests

Quests are plentiful within the game and it can be tempting to pick up quests as you come across them similar to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. However, this could lead to forgetting sections of other quests not to mention make a bigger mess of your in-game maps. It’s best to enjoy quests fully before you start tacking on more quests.

Tip #7 Map/UI Clutter

The map can be filled with icons from the start and frankly, it can be a mess to go through. Within the settings, you can choose what the map displays and as a result, you’ll get a neater and more organized view of the world.

Tip #8 Flee Away

Don’t get greedy. You may feel like a dominating force when mowing down a flood of Orcs that come crawling your way, but you can easily get over your head with too many enemies on screen or a stronger foe that makes its way towards your position.

As a result, know when you’ve been defeated and flee the scene instead of getting slaughtered. Dash out, recover, and then head back to deliver another powerful string of attacks against the enemy.

Tip #9 Remember To Summon

This goes in-hand with our previous point of fleeing when in trouble. It’s best to remember that you can summon various Orcs that have pledged their alliance to help during your fight. If a battle is getting out of hand then request help from your followers.

Tip #10 Explore

It should go without saying, but being an open-world video game, take the time to go out and explore. Wander around and find new areas, quests, or loot for the taking.
