After defeating the first major boss in Lords of the Fallen, multiple areas will finally open up for your Dark Crusader to explore. But you might not even know how to access these areas until you’re much, much further in the game. If you want to get closer to the Fief of the Chill Curse, one of the major areas where you’ll find a beacon and a new massive boss, you’ll need to acquire the Fief Key. Getting the key and figuring out where to use it? That can take a very long time. Here’s everything you need to know.

Fief of the Chill Curse | Location Guide
To reach the frozen Fief of the Chill Curse, you’ll need to defeat the first of the beacon bosses. Once the Hushed Saint in the Forsaken Fen is defeated, you’ll unlock the ability to access an additional region of the map. The path isn’t obvious.
- Fief Key Location: The Fief Key is given by Andreas of Ebb in Skyrest Bridge. He’ll appear next to the vestige after you defeat The Hushed Saint — the first major boss protecting one of the five beacons.
Once the Hushed Saint is defeated, talk to the aristocratic NPC standing to the right of the vestige. The Fief Key is required to access a new region.
- Where To Use The Fief Key: With the Fief Key, travel to the Windmill Vestige. This is the second vestige in the Redcopse Village area that’s at the very start of the game. From this vestige, look nearby for the large gate with a frozen bell.
Interact with the door and you’ll be given the option to unlock it. The massive door leads to a clearing and a cave ahead — look near the cave entrance for a Map of the Fief of the Chill Curse. The cave is blocked by an Umbral Barrier. You’ll need to enter the Umbral and use Soulflay to open the path. You can sprint past the Umbral Moth and reach a revival point in the cave ahead.
What’s Stopping You From Entering The Fief?
Blocking the entrance to the Fief of the Chill Curse is a difficult frost-infused boss. The Kinrangr Guardian Folard boss is a powerful hunter with a team of ice hounds. His arena is partially filled with high water, making you move very slowly. He’s also protected by an Umbral Parasite you’ll need to destroy before the fight can begin.
- Even worse, the Kinrangr’s arena has a Mendacious Visage in the Umbral. If you die and revive in the Umbral, you’ll have to fight the Kinrangr and the magically infused stone face.
This area is extremely difficult early in the game. Don’t even attempt to access this area until you’re far on the path to the second beacon. This area isn’t recommended until after you’ve completed the second beacon major boss. Once you’re sufficiently leveled up, then you can return and take out the boss. Like all minibosses, he isn’t that tough if you’re properly leveled up.
