There are only two main currencies in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Gold and Nopon Coins. While gold’s uses are pretty standard and straightforward allowing you to buy items and equipment from the different vendors scattered across the game’s massive open world, Nopon coins are a little bit more versatile.
While the game certainly provides an explanation for Nopon Coins, it’s brief and easily sidelined in favor of the many hours of combat tutorials that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 puts the player through. If you’ve acquired a small fortune of Nopon coins and are looking to spend them, take a look at the guide below.

How to Use Nopon Coins
While Gold allows you to buy items from vendors, Nopon Coins allow you to purchase class levels for your characters, craft gems, or cook food without having the required items.
If you’re looking to fully kit out a character’s class for them to learn some Master Arts or spread the class to other characters, head into the Class section of the Characters menu. Highlight the class you’d like to level up and hit the Y button. A menu will pop up that shows you how many Nopon Coins you have and how much it will cost to level up. You can simply hit confirm and instead of leveling up the class through regular means, you’ll have gained a free level (well, not free but you know what I mean.) Leveling up classes costs the silver Nopon Coins.
If you want free gems (again, not entirely free, but you get the idea) find a campsite and access the gem menu. Here, you’d usually be able to sift through the many different gems that are available to be crafted and equipped to enhance your characters. If you’re looking to bypass the hunt for the various items required, you can simply pay a Nopon Coin fee. Instead of holding down the A button to craft, hold down the Y button and you’ll spend coins for gems. Purchasing gems costs gold Nopon Coins.
Food is a simple mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: you eat at a campsite and you get some temporary buffs. While it’s not particularly complex, you can skip finding all the cooking ingredients by spending Nopon coins in the exact same way as with gem crafting. Go to the cooking menu at the campfire and spend your coins on food if you don’t have the proper ingredients.
How to Get Nopon Coins
You can get your hands on Nopon Coins in a few different ways. The first is through simply completing quests. Not every quest will net you coins, but you can see which ones will by viewing their rewards in the Quests menu. Similarly, you can get Nopon coins using the Collectopedia Cards in the quests menu. These are simple item fetch quests that are completed by simply picking up items littered across the game.
Another way to get Nopon Coins is by intervening in the small skirmishes that break out between monsters and human groups as you explore the world. When you get close to one, you’ll be asked to choose a side. Often, one side will offer a small handful of Nopon Coins as a reward that you’ll be able to claim by taking out the opposing side.
The final way to secure Nopon Coins is to beat Unique Monsters. Unique Monsters pose a major threat to you, but if you can best them, you’ll be rewarded with some coins. It’s important to note that taking down Unique Monsters is no easy task, so make sure you’re leveled properly before picking a fight. Also, you won’t be able to farm Nopon Coins by visiting the graves of downed Unique Monsters and fighting them again: you only get coins after your first victory.
There’s one more way to get Nopon Coins, but it’s extremely inconsistent. You can be awarded the coins through the containers that are littered across the open world, but they don’t always give you coins. It’s a good idea to open them when you see them as they can have all sorts of rare items inside, but it’s not a good idea to rely on them as your sole source of Nopon Coins.
Nopon Coin X-Change
While most vendors only accept Gold to purchase items, the Nopon Coin X-Change is a secret Nopon vendor where you can spend Nopon Coins to buy rare accessories. Finding the X-Change’s location, however, is a little tricky. If you’re looking for it, check out our guide that details exactly how to find it.
