Mafia fans are getting a new installment for the franchise next month. We know that Mafia: The Old Country is going to take us back to the past, rather than continuing to push the franchise forward in time. Instead, we’re going back to the early 1900s in Sicily. If you’ve been eyeing this game, then check out some new gameplay footage that has since surfaced, offering a small look at some sneaky takedowns if you choose a stealth approach to dealing with your targets.
The new footage comes courtesy of IGN, which showcased nearly ten minutes of gameplay. It’s noted that this footage is from chapter five of the campaign, and some cuts have been made to avoid spoilers. Meanwhile, the focus here is on our protagonist, Enzo Favara, who is tasked with a revenge plot for the Torrisi crime family.
To paint a picture that his family will not be messed with, you’re forced into infiltrating a compound and clean things up. It’s not an easy task, as you’ll find that the best course of action is to go about it stealthily. You’ll track the guards and take them out one by one, until there are few of them left. That’s when it looks like Enzo can go heavy, tossing grenades and using firearms to thin out the last of the guards stationed there.
You can check out the gameplay footage for yourself in the video below. That said, if you haven’t been following this game, we can offer a brief refresher. As mentioned, we’re getting a bit of a prequel to the game series in this installment, as we step into the shoes of Enzo, a man who previously worked the sulfur mines before joining the fold of the Torrisi crime family.
Meanwhile, we know that the developers at Hangar 13 reeled things in a bit after Mafia III. So, don’t go expecting an open-world experience. Instead, Mafia: The Old Country will be a smaller linear narrative game, similar to the first two installments of the Mafia games. This also means we won’t see it priced at $80.
As for when you can get your hands on this game, we don’t have long. Mafia: The Old Country is set to arrive on August 8, 2025. When it does release, you’ll find it available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
