Could New Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Ad Be A Sign Of What’s To Come?

April 1, 2025 by Todd Black

Not the kind of “Rizz” you were expecting, right?

There was a time when celebrity endorsements of video games just didn’t happen. After all, “video games were for kids,” and the only way you could get a celebrity to promote one was to pay them serious cash. However, we’ve all grown up with such thoughts, and you can get all sorts of celebrities to promote video games nowadays. Sure, you’re still paying them money to do so, but at least they won’t think of it as a “lame job” because they’re promoting something cool. So, for this ad for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, you might be surprised that the celebrity in question…is The Rizzler.

If you don’t know who that is, you need to get on social media more. He’s a rather adorable kid who has won people over with his expressions and genuine kindness. For all you fans of All Elite Wrestling, he and his friends “Big Justice” and AJ “THE BOOM’ have appeared on a few of their PPVs recently, much to the adoration of the crowd. Regardless, The Rizzler can be seen in the video below playing Donkey Kong Country Returns HD with his dad and enjoying the game very much. Given his large following online, you can expect some people to be swayed by this ad and by the port that is out now on Nintendo Switch.

However, if were to look at this another way, we’d say that this is another way of proving that Donkey Kong needs a brand-new title, and he needs one soon. This is one of many characters/franchises that need such an “update,” and fans know it. Captain Falcon is another whom fans want a new game for and they’ve been asking Nintendo for a long time to give it to them. Thankfully, there is a chance their prayers could be answered soon.

Why is that? That’s because the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is almost here. The hour-long presentation will feature all manner of games to showcase the power of the new system and why people should buy it at launch. Donkey Kong hasn’t had a new game since the Wii U days, and since then, the Wii U and Wii titles have been ported to the Switch, with nothing else coming out for the beloved primate. Considering he was a semi-big part in Mario’s animated movie in 2023, and the ports sold incredibly well, now is definitely the time to bring the Kong family back to prominence and give the people what they want.
