It might seem like April 2nd is a long time away from now, but it’s honestly not. As one Nintendo insider accurately pointed out online, it’s only 50 days away. That’s not a long time, and that means that we’re ever closer to knowing what The Big N has planned for its new console and what games we’ll be playing on it when it arrives later this year. There’s plenty of anticipation going on with this, and there are some who are hoping that a regular Nintendo Direct for the OG Switch will happen before the April 2nd one. Either way, gamers are eager to discover what will happen.
So, where to begin with this? Well, we’ll follow Stealth’s footsteps and talk about Mario, as he will undoubtedly have two big titles either coming out at launch or within the launch window. We know that he’ll have a racing game coming to the platform based on the initial Switch 2 reveal. Based on the small teases we had in that reveal, the game will have a different visual aesthetic, have the potential for 24 racers on a single course, have new maps, and more.
However, many are hoping that the next 3D game with Mario will make an appearance at the Nintendo Direct, and that feels like a safe bet. After all, the last true 3D title was in 2017. Since then, Mario got plenty of spinoffs and remasters, but nothing that was a true follow-up to what Nintendo did in 2017.
The question then becomes, “What other franchises will be shown for the Nintendo Switch 2?” That’s a fair question and one that doesn’t have as easy an answer. The beauty of the OG Switch was that numerous franchises were highlighted on it and prospered because of it. So, while classics like The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros, and more could be featured, many are also hoping for things like Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Golden Sun, and others who haven’t had a big title in a long time to get their due.
Certain rumors say that this could happen, but only Nintendo knows for sure. What we can promise is that 50 days from now, the internet is likely to explode from all the game reveals, as The Big N knows it has to knock it out of the park for this console to sell as the OG Switch did.
