Hollow Knight: Silksong fans have been desperate for an update. The Reddit community is filled with “Silkposts” where community members create realistic-looking fake news as a satirical jab at Team Cherry for their lack of updates. Last week the community rallied together after the theory that a Twitter Profile picture update was part of some elaborate scavenger hunt to reveal the date of Silksong’s release. It seems that theory has since been disproven.
As shared by the folks over at The Gamer. The Cake theory has seemingly been disproven. The Cake in question was a slice of chocolate cake that appeared in the profile picture of one of the lead Hollow Knight devs. When a reverse image search was done it appeared the online recipe that was the source of the cake image, had the same date as the Switch 2 direct. This led to the speculation that Hollow Knight: Silksong would be at the Nintendo Switch 2 direct.
A YouTuber known as fireb0rn popularised the Cake theory. He shared that the development team had reached out after his video. They informed him that the Cake image was not an ARG of any kind. Fireb0rn shared the update on Twitter.
Disappointed fans took this very personally and began demanding an update on Reddit. One fan pleaded with Hollow Knight’s marketing director on Twitter. Eventually, fans did receive an update both on Twitter and Discord. Matthew Griffin the individual responsible for Hollow Knight’s marketing shared that the game is still in development and progressing nicely.
