While many gamers and critics are rightfully focused on all the Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, reports, and leaks, as many are expecting a big announcement soon, there are many who are also fine with looking at the upcoming titles for the OG Switch that still will bring joy to those who play it. Perhaps no game sums that up more than Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, which will arrive in March. Gamers have asked for the game for years, as the Wii U exclusive hadn’t been ported anywhere else. Yet, now, the time is almost here for another trip to the planet Mira, and a new trailer showcases the journey ahead.
In the new cinematic trailer, we see a more detailed story breakdown of all that is going on with humanity and how our custom protagonist fits into things. Humanity was forced to flee to the stars and spent two years trying to find a new home. However, outside interference forced them to crashland on the mysterious world they call Mira. The problems don’t end there, though. The vast majority of humanity that was on their “White Whale” was in stasis, and when their ship broke apart, many columns of humanity were scattered across the planet.
It’s the job of your character, alongside allies like Lin and Elma, to search the planet, find these remaining parts of humanity, and help make the city of New Los Angeles sustainable so that life can truly thrive. However, as the trailer reminds you, this planet has plenty of threats. There are giant beasts that you’ll have to fight, and there are foreign races that will try to “purge” humanity because they feel it is “righteous.”
There is hope, though. You’ll always have the ability to fight back, and eventually, you’ll get a giant mech known as a Skell to help you with the harder battles while also allowing you to enjoy the terrain of the world from the land, sea, or sky.
As if that wasn’t enough, we got another tease for the additional story content for the game, highlighting the return of a key character, a mysterious new character, and the promise that there is more to explore and possibly tie up the looming cliffhanger that the story gave players back in 2015.
Many noticed that Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition looks beautiful, and it’s hard to deny that. It’ll be a thrill to play the game when it arrives on March 20th.
