Nintendo Insider Teases Xenoblade Chronicles X Sequel

January 3, 2025 by Todd Black

Gimme, gimme, gimme!!!

2025 will be a key year for Nintendo in more ways than one. Yes, everyone is waiting for the announcement of Switch 2 and the games that will be on it. However, for the OG Switch, there are still a few big games coming out that will have fans excited. There’s one featuring Samus Aran, another will bring players back to the Kalos region to experience capturing pocket monsters in a new way, and then there’s Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. You know, the last big Wii U port that Nintendo and Monolith Soft took their sweet time in porting over to the console? Yeah, that one.

Anyway, the game is finally coming out in March, and it’ll feature not only a visually overhauled main game but it’ll contain new story content, which is a big deal for gamers, as we’ll explain in a bit. However, no matter what that content is, the one thing that fans of Xenoblade Chronicles X have been asking for since the Wii U days is a true sequel. Enter Nash Weedler, who made a post on Twitter teasing that because of certain releases in the franchise’s past, we could be getting a sequel soon enough:

2010
Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles

2015
New 3DS: Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Wii U: Xenoblade Chronicles X

2017
Switch: Xenoblade Chronicles 2

2020
Switch: Xenoblade Chronicles DE

2022
Switch: Xenoblade Chronicles 3

2025
Switch: Xenoblade Chronicle X DE

Is this a bit of a stretch? Sure. Think about how long it took for us to get this port! Nothing is guaranteed until the game is announced. However, is there hope? Absolutely, and the port may have that hope built in.

You see, when Nintendo and Monolith Soft released the definitive edition of the original game in the franchise, they added story content that directly teased the third entry, which would arrive in 2022. As we noted before, the upcoming definitive edition will have new story content, and that could be a tease for what comes next with this spinoff story.

Plus, for those who played the Wii U title, you know that the story ended on a massive cliffhanger. That’s why fans have been demanding a sequel for years. Could the extra story content in the upcoming port be what ties up the story? It could, yes. However, it’s more logical that Monolith Soft is giving fans a little bit of an epilogue to the first story while also building up what could happen in the next story.

Obviously, there’s no way of knowing which scenario will happen until the game comes out, but that’s part of what makes this so thrilling! The future has many possibilities, and we want to see which comes to pass.
