One month ahead of the highly-anticipated release of Sonic X Shadow Generations, Sega has announced details about a piece of DLC coming to the title. The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack will be included with the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, allowing fans to play as the film version of Shadow, voiced by Keanu Reeves.
The DLC will also include a Tokyo area, as a portion of the upcoming film takes place in Japan’s capital city.
“This content will not have a story which per se that would relate directly to the movie,” said series producer Shun Nakamura in a new interview with PlayStation Blog. “Rather, as you can see in the trailer, it will be set in Tokyo, where Shadow visits in the movie.
“The development team also lives in Tokyo, so we tried to develop this setting an enjoyable place as a Sonic game but also clearly showing the Tokyo-likeness. We even went out for research to the actual area being used in the game for inspiration. We feel it is very exciting to play as Shadow in a real existing city, so please look forward to it.”
Sonic X Shadow Generations will include a remaster of Sonic Generations along with a brand-new story campaign starring Shadow as the playable character – something many fans of the franchise are excited to experience.
“Whereas Sonic is always going to be a hero doing that heroic thing, Shadow is a little bit more complicated and on that edge where he could end up doing something that no longer makes him a hero,” said Sonic Team head Iizuka in a recent interview. “It’s that difference that’s a good juxtaposition but also makes him a really cool character.”
Sonic X Shadow Generations will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 25, 2024.
