Sonic X Shadow Generations Getting Rather Low-Priced Collector’s Edition

July 2, 2024 by Todd Black

Going fast because it’s cheap?

Developers and publishers take advantage of many trends in the gaming space. One of the biggest ones is the idea of the “Collector’s Edition.” Basically, the teams will put the main game together with a bunch of side content like art books, a steel case to hold the game in, a soundtrack featuring beats from the title, and more, and then put it at a rather high price so that they can make money, and yet they’re confident that people will buy it. Sure enough, it works. However, Sonic X Shadow Generations is taking a slightly different approach to things.

Sega was a bit mum on the idea of a Collector’s Edition for the game, but, as noted by The Gamer, Sonic X Shadow Generations will have a nicely stacked Collector’s Edition, and it won’t break your wallet to get! So, what’s inside this collection? You’ll get a keychain, a physical artbook, and even a figure of Shadow The Hedgehog himself! That’s all stuff that gamers will lap up if they get the chance.

The best part is that the edition only appears to cost $81 if you get it through something like Play-Asia. Obviously, that’s not the same as Amazon or some other stores, but if it is the beginning of a trend for this collection, people will definitely pick it up.

Traditionally, these Collector’s Editions are about $100, if not much higher, depending on the content within it. In contrast, this is only slightly above the main price of the revamped title, which is only $50. So you’re basically paying $30 for an art book, a keychain, and a cool Shadow figure. That’s not too bad at all. Oh, and you get a physical copy of the game, so that helps the price, too!

There will be a lot of eyes on this title, not only because the original game that’s getting a visual upgrade is a lot of fun and hailed as one of the best titles featuring Sonic the Hedgehog in recent gaming generations, but the Shadow content is brand-new. It’ll feature all-new levels and fights that seek to bring the character back into the forefront of gamers’ minds.

More than likely, Sega is going to use this new content to boost the excitement for the upcoming third movie of Sonic’s live-action franchise, as that’s where Shadow will debut! They claim that Keanu Reeves is voicing Shadow in the film, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet!
