Are you ready to grab a broomstick and fly with the best of them? That’s what Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will encourage you to do! The game is based on the beloved sport within the fictional universe, but unlike many past titles that featured it, the entire game is centered around the sport! You’ll pick your starting spot and the position you want to be in the game, and then slowly work your way up the ranks so you can become a global Quidditch star! It won’t be easy, though, and that’s why the PlayStation Blog talked with one of the dev team to discuss how gameplay works and show off a new trailer!
For creative director Farren Fox, they knew from the start that the most important thing was recreating the true spirit of Quidditch:
“From the start of development, we recognized that Quidditch, with its deep roots in wizarding tradition, deserved a game built from the ground up to truly capture its competitive spirit and provide an authentic experience. We knew that creating a standalone game was essential to focus on the unique mechanics and features of Quidditch, ensuring a rich and immersive experience that fans could fully enjoy.”
Now, some of you might think, “Well, Quidditch matches can technically go on forever or end quickly, depending on who gets the Snitch. So, how did the team adjust for that?” Well, they did so quite easily, actually:
“We worked hard to balance the game to capture the essence of Quidditch as envisioned in the books and films, while also playing like a modern video game. For instance, catching the Golden Snitch doesn’t end the game and it’s now worth 30 points – enough to recover if a team is trailing behind or help secure the win if a team is in the lead. This adaptation makes the Golden Snitch a powerful game mechanic, while still allowing all roles to influence the game equally. “
Plus, the team wanted to ensure that no matter what position you played that, you felt like you were truly a witch or wizard in this world. That’s why Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions lets you customize your avatar so that you can stand out from the wizarding crowd or become one of your favorite characters in the universe! Plus, you’ll also be able to play Quidditch matches in various legendary locations within the book/movie series.
