It now seems more and more likely that a Nintendo Direct is coming just in time for the end of this month.
This latest rumor started last week, after the Nintendo Museum Direct, when PH Brazil, AKA Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, posted on Famiboards that “There’s more coming this month.” Earlier in the week, we may have jumped to conclusions by stating that Brazil was predicting a reveal of the Switch 2. But whatever Nintendo has to show or reveal, another source corroborates his claim that Nintendo will have something to show us.
Over the weekend, NateDrake also posted on Famiboards, saying that:
“We will see Nintendo coverage soon. Whether said coverage is linked to a Direct or not I cannot be sure based on the expected timeline.”
On the same thread, when he was asked if he had any expectations, he answered:
“My expectation is a Direct.”
We’ll play things safe this time and discuss upcoming Nintendo titles that we know are coming this year. The clear next candidate for a presentation would be Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. Nintendo successfully pulled off a viral marketing campaign for Emio, making fans wonder how the child-friendly company could be teasing us such an eerie and foreboding character. As it turned out, Nintendo dipped in back to their early history in the Famicom, with their return to the detective adventure game genre. Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is scheduled for release this August 29, 2024, so the timing could not be better. We can see this getting a dedicated Direct, as it’s clear that this is a passion project that Nintendo would love to make a relevant, possibly even high profile, franchise in their first-party library.
That could be it, quite frankly, but there’s no harm in looking at what else they could be showing us. They have other heavyweights on the way, such as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. High-profile third party titles that were announced or could be coming to the Switch this year include Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Neo Fantasian, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, and of course, Hollow Knight: Silksong.
It’s also possible that they will share more about their 2025 releases, such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, or announce newer first party games for the Switch. This could undermine their promotion of the games that they still have for 2024, so we wouldn’t hold out hope for that. Truthfully, Nintendo has already shown they can still surprise us for the second year in a row with the return of various games in all forms, that it would be reasonable to expect the unexpected.
