We have an interesting new rumor about the Switch 2, which seems to be credible proof that we are inching ever closer to its announcement and release.
This is related to a rumor we reported on the start of the week, from a news outlet called MoneyDJ. In a financial call with investors, Taiwanese company Weltrend said that they expected an uptick in business because of new orders for parts for new models of the PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
There has been a follow-up to the rumor that was shared by YouTuber Nintendo Prime. We’ll go through his sources below.
MoneyDJ published a followup report based on the same financial meeting Weltrend had with investors, adding details on their new orders from Nintendo. This time, some Famiboards users did their own translation of the news.
Famiboards user fwd-bwd shared this key translation of the new details:
“Although Weltrend is not privy to the exact release timing of the [new Nintendo model], the customer has begun calling in shipments from upstream suppliers in advance. [The component] has now successfully entered the mass production stage.”
Later, Famiboards user gonanzir shared this insight:
“The person mentioned that entering(進入) the mass production(量產) phase implies that this component was not in mass production before. Previously, this company supplied components for the Switch OG, so I believe this is related to the new Nintendo console(Nintendo Switch successor).”
gonanzir then explained that they are a native speaker. They then elaborated that fwd-bwd did not say outright that the Switch 2 is entering production, but that the components that will be used to make it could be. Indeed, we reported that Nintendo was having some components shipped to a factory where the Switch 2 will be made.
And as it turns out, MoneyDJ has also been tracking these hard to trace rumors for some time now. Last year, they reported on PixArt anticipating ‘a new console from a Japanese company’. PixArt provides the parts that powers the Joy-Con’s sensors.
Nintendo Prime points out that the tech industry already expects that their devices will get leaked out of the factories the moment they start getting made. It’s something that Nintendo, Apple, Sony, Samsung etc. already experience regularly. And so, they simply work out their product pipelines around it.
Because of this, and because of recent rumors from Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe AKA Brazil, Nintendo Prime believes that the Switch 2 will be announced this September. But, we will have to disagree with him on this point. As we interpret them, Brazil’s recent posts imply that the announcement is coming this month.
Of course, that may ultimately be a moot point in any case. Once the Switch 2 is announced, we expect that full manufacture of the console will start soon. All these rumors paint the picture that Nintendo will create a massive launch stock of their next console.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa went on record that this is their plan to beat scalpers, and make sure everyone who wants the console on launch will get one. We don’t know if any of these rumors are true, but it certainly paints a picture of what could be one of the biggest launch consoles ever.
