Richard Charles Lintern, the voice actor behind the warrior Igon in Elden Ring, had a great time delivering his lines, though he was at a bit of a loss about what he was working on. In a new interview with IGN, Lintern recalls his experience working with FromSoftware, marking the actor’s first time working in the gaming space after appearing in countless TV shows and films.
“I’m not entirely stupid, but I had not heard of Mr. Miyazaki before,” Lintern said. “I didn’t know the game, and I didn’t know the status of the game, and I didn’t know his status. But when I walked into the room, his status was very clear, very clear immediately. Everyone was very friendly, but at the same time, I could see that this was a bigger deal than I’d imagined it was going to be.”
Recently, writer George R.R. Martin potentially teased an upcoming Elden Ring TV or film adaptation.
“The attention to detail that was given to the character and the performance was pretty much greater than anything I’ve experienced before. Comparable with characters in Shakespeare that I’ve played and stuff. People were taking it extremely seriously.”
Lintern wasn’t entirely sure why his character loathed someone named Bayle quite so much, and was also confused as to why the lines recorded talked about having both won and lost. He was reminded by staff that this was a video game–sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Elden Ring has sold over 25 million copies since it was released in February 2022. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion for Elden Ring was released on June 21, 2024, and is currently the highest-rated DLC of all time.
