Xbox Game Pass just added another big survival horror game to the catalog. This first wave of Xbox Game Pass titles for February included the addition of Resident Evil 3. That comes after the previous month, which included access to Resident Evil 2. So, those of you who had finished through the last installment might be keen on giving this next game a chance.
With that said it might be worth playing through Resident Evil 2 if you haven’t done so yet. That’s because Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 take place at the same time. So you’ll get a broader picture of what’s going on by playing that second installment. If you’ve already done so, then Resident Evil 3 will put you in a different spot of Raccoon City. This time around, you’re stepping into the shoes of Jill Valentine.
You can get a brief overview of what happened before Resident Evil 3 in the game. However, this title does take place shortly after Resident Evil. Jill Valentine is a former member of the Raccoon City Police Department, or more specifically, a member of the STARS team, which stands for Special Tactics and Rescue Service. This elite group was tasked with combating more serious crimes and situations.
Jill Valentine was featured in the first game, where she learned the horrors that came from the Umbrella Corporation. Within Resident Evil 3, we find Jill is trying to investigate the corporation further when a new BOW is sent out to eliminate any of the surviving STARS members. This attack also came during a zombie virus spread throughout the city, forcing Jill to fight through a slew of new horrors. Fortunately, today, you can enjoy this game for free just as long as you have access to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
Afterward, there is only one more remake available for the franchise. Capcom had gone through the original Resident Evil 4 and remade it for modern platforms. Fortunately, that game just received a price cut if you’re after the standard edition. Resident Evil 4 also has a new edition release from this month called Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. That will gain you access to the standard campaign and the extra DLC, such as Separate Way. For those unaware, Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways follows Ada Wong in her own mission outside of aiding Leon from his impending doom.
