We live in a gaming age where doing DLC isn’t just “expected,” it’s “required” for certain games, especially ones that have already had DLC in the past. For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 it has a big set of shoes to fill, given what happened with the original game and its DLC. When Insomniac took the DLC route for their original title with Spider-Man, they did “The City That Never Sleeps,” a three-part story that featured the arrival of Black Cat, Hammerhead, and the turning of one of Peter Parker’s allies. While not everyone liked it for certain reasons, it was still well-received for the most part.
Officially, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hasn’t gotten confirmation that DLC is coming, but there have been some hints that there will be or could be. And now, leaks on Imgur have been coming out that are referencing at least one part of the DLC, and they feature a character you might not expect. The character that is referenced in the leak is Beetle, aka Lady Beetle, who in Marvel Comics is the daughter of Tombstone, who is in both Insomniac Games.
If you look up her picture, you’ll see she has a very spider-esque outfit to make her go hand-in-hand with the heroes she’s fighting. What her story would be within the game is unclear, without spoiling too much from the main stories, but it could be she’s trying to get revenge for her father or even start a gang war of her own. Further details from the leak highlight the main missions you’ll need to do because of her and the new costumes you’ll presumably get for beating her.
However, it should be noted that this isn’t confirmed content, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
Based on the game’s main story and the information received since then, including via the massive hack to Insomniac Games, many people expect the DLC to focus on Venom. Why? Allegedly, voice actor Tony Todd recorded plenty of lines for Venom, and yet they only used 10% of what he did, which is rather odd considering how important Venom is to the story and the popularity of the character.
It should be noted that during the hack on Insomniac, it was revealed that a Venom spinoff game could be in the works, and if so, that would further raise questions about the potential DLC for the sequel or if we’ll get the DLC at all.
