Easily, one of the biggest questions in gaming that developers have to answer is how they’re going to top what they’ve already done before. For Insomniac Games, it was already a big honor for them to do a video game title with Spider-Man, and they crushed it on PS4. Then, they did a spinoff with Miles Morales on PS5, which helped set up Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. That game came out last week and is already doing incredibly sales-wise. But naturally, fans are already starting to think about the future. They want to know what Insomniac Games will do next if they’re allowed to do a third game.
By all indications, they’ll be given the greenlight. After all, the game is getting critical praise out the wazoo, and as noted above, it’s already selling great. But would the team itself be up for it? Well, in an interview posted on Twitter, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Creative Direct Bryan Intihar noted that it could be “pretty epic” based on everything they’ve done so far and even referenced their games to the MCU regarding how they “came out”:
Interesting comparisons, wouldn’t you say? That’s where things get more interesting because the “Civil War” in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is easy to spot if you know where to look. But by that token, how would they do the “Endgame” if allowed to make a third title?
Well, without spoiling too much, there are options for them. One of the biggest ones is the Spider-Verse. We already know through the video games and the comics that the Insomniac Games version of Spider-Man knows about the multiverse and has interacted with other Spider-Men. The question is, “when” in his timeline did this happen? They could showcase the “first instance” of this version of Peter and Miles entering the Spider-Verse or it coming to them and how they would react to such revelations.
Or, if they wanted to keep it “grounded” like the first two games, there are still some major villains from the Spider-Man rogues gallery that haven’t been unleashed upon the world yet. Some of them will make fans “green with envy,” and others will get fans to desire “Carnage” above all else.
But the big thing here is that Insomniac Games will want to put 100% of themselves into this like they have before. That’s what made the original games so great and its newest entry so fun.
So, no matter what path they decide to go, gamers can trust what Insomniac Games does.
