SEGA has been doing right by Sonic The Hedgehog for a while now, and they’re hoping to keep things rolling with the upcoming Sonic Superstars title that’ll be released next month. The game takes things back to the 2D era of play while bringing it into the 3D era of graphics. In the title, you can play Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose as you attempt to foil yet another plot by the villainous Dr. Eggman. But before diving into that title, SEGA has released a special animated prologue highlighting the villains in action and setting up the game’s plot.
In “Trio of Trouble,” Dr. Eggman is aided by Fang The Hunter, and the mysterious Trip as they go through an old ruin. There’s something within that ruin that Eggman needs to create his next evil plan to rule and stop Sonic and Friends. However, as one might guess, not everything in the ruin is destroyed, and the trio quickly finds themselves in trouble. The animation is quite lovely, and while there’s no voice acting, you’ll have no problem understanding what’s going on. Plus, with teases to the main game within, you’ll want to pay attention to the clues that are given:
As for Sonic Superstars itself, here is the official synopsis for the game:
“Adventure through the mystical Northstar Islands in this all-new take on classic 2D Sonic high-speed action platforming. Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose and harness all-new Emerald powers to move and attack in dynamic new ways. Navigate gorgeous, never-before-seen environments solo or with up to three other players and stop Dr. Eggman, Fang, and a mysterious new adversary from converting the islands’ giant animals into Badniks before it’s too late!”
So, as you can see, an action-packed adventure awaits, and that’s not even mentioning everything you can do within the title. For example, for the first time, you can play a co-op adventure with up to three friends! Each of you will control a character, and you’ll attempt to make your way through each level. You can also do an online battle mode where you’ll create a character and see if you can beat your friends or online rivals! If that’s still not enough, the Chaos Emerald abilities sometimes react differently to the characters you play, so each one has unique abilities they can use!
If that sounds like fun, then be sure to get Sonic Superstars when it arrives on October 17th.
