ORIGINAL STORY
Just when you thought that video games couldn’t get any weirder or wilder, you’re shown something that truly boggles the mind and makes you question everything you have learned. Dead By Daylight has been an incredibly long-lasting title for the simple reason that they bring in new killers for you to portray or flee from at regular intervals. They’ve even brought in legendary horror figures from movies to help make the game feel like a true “monstrous crossover” with the films and series that inspired its core concept. But now, they’re about to get their biggest star ever, and his name is Nic Cage!
That’s right. The legendary actor, who has done much in his career, for better and for worse, has been announced to be joining the game in some capacity. We don’t know specifically if he’ll be one of the “killers” in the game, but given that all previous reveals have been about the killer characters, it would be odd if that wasn’t the case. What we do know is that there is a teaser for Nic Cage’s arrival, and his character model definitely looks like Cage. So if nothing else, we have that:
More inferences to him being a killer is the spooky nature of the reveal, including the director’s chair being knocked over and Cage’s voice talking about how imagination can change everything you know. That would line up with a killer in the game and could speak to the potential powers that Cage would have as one of them.
There’s plenty of irony to go along with this announcement. The first being Nic Cage’s career over the last decade or so. In the early parts of his movie life, he was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, having both critical and box office success. But then, excessive purchases led to him going on a string of films not for the clout but for the paycheck. He wasn’t afraid to admit this and did so many films it’s honestly hard to name them all. Many were horror films, including a knockoff of a certain horror video game. Hint: Freddy.
So for him to go to those films to a horror video game is both poetic and hilarious. Fans online are already speculating what this could all mean, and their guess is as good as ours. Thankfully, we’ll get a Dead By Daylight reveal of what’s happening with Mr. Cage on July 5th.
