Cyberpunk 2077 To Get Game Of The Year Edition Next Year

December 5, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

It’ll release after the Phantom Liberty DLC.

Those yet to experience the neon thrills and spills of Night City may want to keep an eye on releases from CD Projekt RED next year. The studio has confirmed that it will be releasing a Game of the Year Edition of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2023.

The new edition of the dystopian sci-fi adventure RPG will be released next year. However, it won’t be until after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077‘s first and only DLC, Phantom Liberty. Additionally, the game will get another “substantial update” to coincide with the release of Phantom Liberty, after which time there won’t be any further DLC released for the game.

According to the Polish website Stockwatch, as spotted by Insider Gaming and reported on by IGN, the news of a Game of the Year Edition for Cyberpunk 2077 was first revealed by CD Projekt RED President and co-CEO Adam Kicinski. Speaking at a recent investors meeting in Warsaw, Kicinski reportedly explained that the game would be getting an all-in-one edition that encompassed the based game plus all of its prior DLC in one release next year.

Drawing parallels with the studio’s other most successful IP The Witcher, Kicinski explained that such a release shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise. “It’s the natural order of things,” he explains, elaborating that “it was the same with The Witcher, which after both expansions was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.”

One thing to bear in mind is that the Phantom Liberty DLC, which will be the game’s only expansion and will be a paid-for DLC, is only planned for release on current-generation platforms and PC. This means that those who already own Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 won’t be able to access the upcoming expansion. Given that the game of the Year Edition is expected to include the Phantom Liberty expansion, plus any other previous DLC, it’s possibly a safe assumption that this version of the game will be released for current-generation platforms and PC also. However, this is purely speculation at this point, so we’ll just have to wait and see exactly which platforms the Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition will work with when it launches next year.

CD Projekt RED is currently working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. However, this game is still in the conceptual stages at this point, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for further updates on it over the coming months.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
