Destiny’s Newest Matchmaking Update Looks For Better Connections

February 18, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Bungie has shared details on the latest matchmaking update for Destiny.

Destiny
Bungie has shared details on the latest matchmaking update for Destiny.

This update has only been applied to zone-capturing mode, and for good reason. This time, the system will prioritize matching up players with closer connections for more stable matches. This means less emphasis is placed on finding matchups of the same skill levels as you.

Bungie promises in spite of these changes, players still have some insulation so that they don’t end up in heavily lopsided matches. Of course, they want to get feedback on the update so that they can decide if they will bring it to the whole game. Bungie is also extending Damage Referee, Control to Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3.

Bungie has not been lax in updating Destiny. They started the current series of matchmaking updates in January 27 and 29, and then again last February 5 and 11. Bungie has taken care to pay attention to feedback with each update, tweaking their matchmaking system to better fit their community’s needs and reach their goal of better connections between players. Of course, the latest update is also a step forward to that goal, but at a more advanced level than when they started.

Destiny continues to enjoy an active and engaged fanbase. One player tried not leaving the first level and went all the way up to level 40 after playing for 98 hours. Bungie already unveiled plans for a major expansion and an upcoming sequel.
