A Gamer Beat Dark Souls Without Getting Hit

February 15, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

A gamer managed to beat the entirety of Dark Souls without taking any damage.

By modern standards, From Software’s Dark Souls is an exceedingly difficult game. Expect to die often in Dark Souls and its sequels. With that in mind, one gamer set out to defy the odds and attempt to play the game in its entirety without taking any damage from monsters. To do so, he had to play the game without being hit even once. He did take damage from poison and fall damage, but that doesn’t really count.

The streamer, who goes by The Happy Hobbit, broadcast a no-hit playthrough of Dark Souls last night. He archived the entire experience in an eight hour long VOD, which shows him going through each and every one of the game’s areas and defeating the enemies without taking any damage.

He describes the playthrough as a successful record-setting attempt to play the game without taking any damage, and claims to be the first person to do so–at least on camera. Unless another video surfaces, what he says is true. The streamer plans to do another no-hit playthrough just to see if he can do it. Watch it below.

Dark Souls is a fairly popular game on Twitch, and enjoys a wide audience due to the challenge it offers. Players often come up with a variety of different ways to challenge themselves in the game, sometimes stripping their character naked and playing through the whole game without armor. Last year, the Twitch community banded together to perform a crowd-based playthrough of Dark Souls.

The next game in the series, Dark Souls 3, will be out on April 12. It’s expected to borrow some of the innovations introduced in From Software’s PS4 exclusive title Bloodborne. Current pre-orders for Dark Souls 3 on Xbox One will include a free copy of the original game with backwards compatibility. Initial impressions of the game have been positive.
