When MultiVersus was announced, many were skeptical of it. Not only because of the overload of fighting game titles that had come out in the game world recently but because the studio would have to blend a ton of unique characters to make things work. Thankfully for gamers, it did work, and it worked very well–so much so that the beta for the game is not only popular, it’s had millions of players and has made a lot of money through its Founder’s Packs. The title is also continually updated, and these updates include not only new characters to the game but significant gameplay improvements. According to the game’s director, two more are coming, and we should keep our eyes on them.
Just as important, Game Director Tony Huynh noted that these patches will be “really big.” While that may not be the most“suspense-filled message, it is enough to give pause. What would make an update really big? The easy answer is new characters likely coming to MultiVersus through these patches and updates. But, of course, we’ve already had new additions recently via Rick and Morty, so who might be next?
The answer to that question may have already been given via previous teases. The team has already confirmed that Black Adam from DC Comics lore and Gizmo from the Gremlins franchise were going to arrive in the title soon enough. The team even dropped unique cover art to showcase them surrounded by previously added fighters. We’ve known about them for a while but haven’t gotten a release date. Thus, these subsequent updates could bring them into the mix at last.
The other possibility is gameplay overhauls. While the basics of MultiVersus are easy to pick up, there are complexities and nuances to the long-term gameplay elements that people want more of going forward. Fixes to the Battle Pass are one such example. The team recently promised to work on that, so perhaps the updates could contain that in one of them.
We also know that the team at Player First Games has listed to fans throughout the beta and made adjustments based on their critiques. For example, one update featured a complete overhaul of the hitboxes so that attacks wouldn’t hit when they should’ve missed. Certain characters, like Velma, have even had their attacks redone to fix specific visual issues that people had with them. There was also a nerfing on XP that you got through battles, so leveling up your characters wouldn’t be easy at the start.
Right now, it’s hard to guess what the team will do. Because they’ve already done so much in the past. That should excite gamers, though, because this beta proves that the dev team is dedicated to making this title as great as possible. Even if these patches aren’t what you wanted, the next ones will likely be.
