Overwatch 2 is right around the corner, launching its early access on October 4 this year. In preparation for the big event, Blizzard Entertainment has started making some announcements that will help the fans hit the ground running when the game comes out. If you love Overwatch games and want to get the most out of your Overwatch 2 experience, then read on for more information about the battle pass and new hero, Kiriko.
Overwatch 2 will be updated every nine weeks with a new theme revealed during each of these periods called seasons. Some seasons may include new heroes, game modes, maps, and other cosmetic goodies for players to collect if they have the battle pass. As expensive as a premium battle pass may sound, it’s really not too bad. Players can buy one outright for $10 or earn it over time with lots of weekly challenges.
You don’t need to buy a battle pass at all. If you just want to play the game and get out, you aren’t missing out. Battle passes are great for players that want fast access to cool new heroes and the cosmetic stuff that makes gameplay more individual. If you buy the premium battle pass, every season that a new character comes out, the new hero will be unlocked immediately. The free battle press will also eventually let players have access to the new hero if they are at Tier 55.
Season 1’s battle pass has a ton to look forward to! First, its theme will be cyberpunk, so it’s already sounding cool. Also, one of the two Epic Skins it will contain is the Mythic Genji Skin. In addition to these things, Season 1 will include the new hero, Kiriko, as well as a weapon charm, two souvenirs, a highlight intro, and more. The free rewards are unlockable in 20 tiers that are scattered throughout the more than 80 tiers of the game.
So, let’s talk about Kiriko! She is the newest addition to the Overwatch 2 roster. In a recent intro video, we got to know the new support character coming with the Season 1 battle pass. Kiriko mixes traditional with modern in her clothing and her abilities. She throws things. Namely, kunai to attack and little glowing projectiles to help heal team members. She can even teleport a short way, moving through a wall in the video. By far her coolest ability is that she can summon a fox spirit that guides her team along a brief path. That fox is adorable. Kiriko is adorable.
Kiriko, unfortunately, will not show up immediately in the competitive modes. This will give people who are earning their battle pass with weekly challenges time to unlock the new characters each season, so Kiriko will be available two weeks after Season 1 launches in the competitive modes.
Overwatch 2 will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It will be a free-to-play title!
