According to several leaks, Riot Games is preparing a console version of its popular FPS Valorant. The company added new strings in the game’s files, indicating “Connection to “PSN” has been lost” and “Connection to Xbox LIVE has been lost.” These files will not appear in the game but are used for backend purposes.
While these messages are clear indicators that Valorant will be reaching Xbox and PlayStation consoles, they are not the only information we have about Valorant’s release on consoles. Riot Games’ Bellevue studio is looking for a Senior Game Designer with experience developing console games.
Valorant took the esports world by storm when it came out two years ago. Many professional esports players from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, and other popular FPS, left their teams to join the emerging scene of Valorant.
Back in June 2020, Executive Producer Anna Donlon already hinted at the possibility of porting Valorant to consoles. “We are definitely prototyping [on consoles] right now. There’s a way to play this game, and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console play.”
Everything we know so far about Valorant on consoles
Riot Games didn’t yet reveal any information about Valorant’s release on consoles. There is no estimated release date or information about crossplay. Moreover, the leaked files only mention the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live services. There is no information about whether Valorant will only be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, or if it will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As the company is currently hiring, chances are Valorant won’t come out on consoles any time soon. Riot Games usually takes time to develop well-crafted games. Don’t expect a Valorant console release date before a couple of years.
In the meantime, Valorant is available on PC and mobile.
