Is Ghostwire: Tokyo Coming To Xbox & Gamepass?

March 17, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Series X/S players might be waiting a while.

Less than ten days from launch, excitement for the new Tango Gameworks title Ghostwire: Tokyo is hitting a record high. The action-adventure horror game will see players running around the neon-lit streets of Tokyo trying to figure out why nearly every person in the city has vanished as they defeat otherworldly spirits with flashy hand gestures and magical powers.

The game is being released for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 25, 2022. In September 2020, Bethesda Softworks’ parent company Zenimax Media and Microsoft announced Microsoft’s intent to buy Zenimax and its studios, including Tango Gameworks.

Since Tango is now a part of Xbox Game Studios, fans have their hopes up for an Xbox release, but will Ghostwire: Tokyo be coming to the Microsoft consoles any time soon?

Will Ghostwire: Tokyo Come to Xbox Consoles & Gamepass?

When the Microsoft buyout of ZeniMax and its studios was finalized, Xbox head Phil Spencer announced that the deal would not affect the pre-existing plan to release Ghostwire: Tokyo as a console-exclusive on the PlayStation 5.

On the console front, Ghostwire: Tokyo is a PlayStation 5 exclusive for one year. The game does not have a concrete release date on Xbox consoles, but the earliest we could see the title would be March 26, 2023. Given the status of Tango as a part of Xbox Game Studios, a release on the Xbox Series X/S is likely sometime next year. The game will likely be released on Game Pass in Q2 of 2023.

The year of exclusivity on PlayStation 5 will also give the devs time to clean up any bugs or issues, meaning the Xbox release will be the most polished version. Hopefully, that makes it worth the wait!
