The Playism Game Show took place yesterday, “Bringing Indie Games to the World,” as the game publishers put it. Several new titles were revealed, including a brand new title in the works by La-Mulana developer, NIGORO. Very little is known about the upcoming game so far but the “working title” is currently Ahamkara.
In a message at the indie game show, NIGORO said, “We at NIGORO have been making games for 10 years and finally it has dawned on us that we are not very good at creating a game in a short time frame. For our next project Ahamkara (working title), I have decided to stay quiet until we have something to announce. As such, I bid you farewell until we meet again at some video again a few years from now.”
While NIGORO has been around for a decade, the developers are perhaps best known for their 2011 remake of the popular Japanese game, La Mulana, and its sequel. La Mulana was originally released in 2006 and only in Japanese, with an English translation patch coming later. NIGORO remade the game from the ground up and released it on Nintendo’s WiiWare service. La Mulana features its protagonist, Lemeza, a whip-wielding adventurer as he explores a tomb within La-Mulana. The game is great for any fan of Indiana Jones.
The developers released La-Mulana 2 in 2018 after a Kickstarter was aimed at getting the project off the ground. Production started once the funds were raised with the game following Lemeza’s daughter as she searches for her father. La-Mulana 2 is available on the Nintendo Switch, along with a version containing both games.
Fans of La-Mulana are certainly rejoicing today with the news that NIGORO has a new game in the works. From the little information that the developers shared, it looks like it is very early days for Ahamkara. Especially with the comment that we will “we meet again at some video again a few years from now.” However, reports also say that the developers have two other unannounced projects in development.
