The monthly NPD figures released show that Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall was the best selling game during March.
However, the game's strong performance wasn't enough to help Microsoft beat rival Sony. In a statement on the Xbox Wire, corporate vice president of marketing Yusuf Mehdi revealed that five million Xbox One systems have been shipped to retailers, an increase of 1.1 million since January.
"We’re also happy to share today that more than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been sold-in to retailers since our launch. The new generation is off to a strong start, with global Xbox One sales outpacing Xbox 360 by more than 60 percent at the same point in time, a true testament to your love of console gaming. Even more important to us is how much fun you are having on Xbox One."
This follows the news released yesterday by Sony, who confirmed that seven million PS4s have been sold to consumers to date along with 20.5 million games. Microsoft has not divulged the number of games sold on Xbox One in total, though they did reveal that 1.4 million Xbox One games were sold in March and the console has an attach rate of 2.9 games per system.
PS4 exclusive inFamous: Second Son sold one million copies in nine days and it's important to note that Titanfall is also a PC release, the Xbox 360 version was released after a delay on April 8th.
