Are you a PS3 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 player? If so, chances are you've encountered some issues that are really, really annoying. What makes it all the more irritating is most of these problems are non-existent on the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.
Listed below are most of the issues I — and other players — have encountered on the PS3 version of Black Ops 2. Some of these annoyances came from Reddit, while others are from my own personal experience. While this is a PS3 list, some of the issues are known on the other platforms sa well.
Freezing (Menu and in-game):
Possibly one of the most well-known Black Ops 2 bug, the game freezes for five to 30 seconds. This usually happens when you're in a lobby and you look at someone's profile or playercard right before a match starts. Only fix I know now is to NOT look at other peoples' stats, cards, etc.
For in-game, this will mean that you won't be able to cap the first flag in Domination and sometimes results in a "Connection Error" glitch that happens twice in succession before automatically resolving itself.
Finding Games Hang:
If you're in a lobby and leave to find a new game, you'll sometimes get stuck in "searching games limbo" for a good 30 seconds or even minutes.
Sound Glitch:
Possibly one of the most annoying bugs in the game, for some unknown reason, sometimes the sound cuts off in Black Ops 2's multiplayer and it will be replaced by a "buzzing" sound that will omit all gun, explosion and callout sounds. To fix this, boot the game's zombie mode, then go right back to multiplayer. If that doesn't work, I find that exiting the game to the PS3's XMB menu and then loading the game again usually works.
Party Issues:
For some reason, Black Ops 2's party system on the PS3 is suffering from problems even Black Ops 1 didn't.
– Party member can't be joined or a player can't be joined for unknown reasons
– It won't let you party with someone for unknown reasons
– Dumping you back out in the main menu but your party has been able to join successfully
– Backing out from a party and seeing the "reconnecting to party" screen for a good 30 seconds or more
Game Causing the PS3 to Hang:
I've experienced this at least three times within the game's first week of release. What happens is the game will freeze at the loading screen, lobby, or sometimes even during a match. Sound will be cut out, and the only way to fix it is to hard reset the PS3. Just for reference, I've tried this on a Super Slim and a Slim and the problem is still there. But since Treyarch released a patch (February patch), I've yet to experience it again.
Keep in mind what's listed here are just some of the things I've noticed and doesn't even mention the multitude of connection problems I still get when playing even today. While Xbox 360 players will say, "just get an Xbox," is that really a good response to someone who spent a few hundred dollars for a game console and $60 for a game they're expecting to work?
What's sad here is that with the Call of Duty brand still making billions, Treyarch or Activision doesn't even really need to address it immediately. People will still flock and buy the game regardless if there are problems like the ones listed or not. To that end, I say if you're one of the many who feel slighted by Activison or Treyarch, let your voices be heard on the official Call of Duty forums, Twitter, Facebook or other ways to contact them. If all else fails, well. there's always the option of not giving them your money…which I assume is the best way to get them to pay attention.
